Hello Reddit,So I've been dating my current GF for 2 years now. The issue is that they both used to be farmers in China (they actually ended up moving to NYC to have my current GF due to the 1 child policy), and so due to language/cultural barriers, I don't talk or interact with them as much as I would like. My GF sees my family all the time, they always get each other gifts for birthdays, holidays etc., and it sucks that I'm not as close with her parents as she is with mine. I'd love to get them a gift that they would use and appreciate, but it's hard to think of something that I know they'd appreciate. They invited me over for dinner recently which went very well, so I was thinking to offer to take them out to a restaurant of their choosing as a gift (though they don't eat out often so not sure if they'd want to do that). My GF said that they both wanted some cold weather clothing for when they walk the family dog, but every item I show my GF she immediately says "oh they wouldn't like that"...I also asked my GF about things they like to do, to which she responded "all my parents do is work, eat, sleep, and watch Chinese dramas", which obviously didn't serve to help me (lol). I really love every part of Christmas - apart from the consumerist, gift buying side. I find it really expensive and stressful, and everyone ends up with piles of stuff they don't really need.Of course I still want to show people how much they mean to me, but without buying stuff they probably don't want/need/have space for.What are some of the best creative/original non-consumerist presents you've ever received? One side of my family does an exchange each year. Basically white elephant/yankee swap. Limit $25. It’s my grandparents, parents, aunts/uncles, and a few cousins. Men and women. Everyone over 18.I’m trying to think of something different to give this year! Last year I got a board/party game. Ended up with my own gift lol. The year before I got a mug, hot chocolate, marshmallows, and Baileys.Other gifts are commonly lottery tickets, wine, gift cards. It can be a gag gift but it’s usually courtesy that the gag gift is around $5 and you get a $20 gift card to go with it.I’m a little stumped on something new to get. I thought about just getting a bunch of local coffee or something like that. Lots of them drink coffee. But anyone have any other ideas? Hi all,I'm really bad at gifting, hoping you can help me out with ideas for a few little odds and ends for extended family. I see them for 3 hours a year (on Christmas!) and I struggle a bit with knowing what they'd appreciate as I'm not very close with them.Looking for my aunt (80 years old) and cousin/her husband (mid-50s). Last year I got some homemade soaps and lotions, honey from a local farm, some fudge from the candy store, and some freshly roasted coffee from the local "roasterie".I'm considering doing the same thing again because I'm out of ideas, haha. There's a local dairy plant here as well, maybe a collection of a few cheeses or something?If you have any ideas on anything else I'd love to hear them. In previous years they've given out things like unique food items, popcorn, lotto tickets, wine, scented candles, little kitchen gadgets, funny gag gifts and we've enjoyed them all. Hi I make gift baskets for Christmas its easy and can be personalized. I wanted to make my 2 aunts one but I just don't feel like I know too much about them. One aunt just got married AND got a dog. So I know something for her dog is going in but I can't figure out what else and then my other aunt has no kids married for a long time and has 2 dogs. Both of them are fairly well off so I can't imagine its too much that they would need. If you can think of just one gift that would be great for each of them then I wouldn't even need to make a basket for them. My limit is like $40-$50 each.
