Help! I usually pride myself on my gift-giving ability but this time I’m stuck.It’s my boyfriend’s 28th birthday at the end of this month, and our 1 year anniversary 2 weeks later. I am a very sentimental person so want to give some sort of meaningful gift, but he isn’t particularly sentimental at all. He buys himself anything he wants in terms of clothes or useful items. His main hobby is watching and playing football (UK), but doesn’t support a specific team. I wanted to book us a weekend away to celebrate both occasions in one, but we are going on our first holiday together in a couple of weeks’ time so it seems over the top to go away again. I really want to get him something that shows him how much our first year together has meant to me, but don’t want to go over the top with something too sentimental (like a scrapbook or similar) as I think that would just make him uncomfortable. My budget is probably about £100 to be split between the two occasions, though this doesn’t have to be split 50-50. I'm in a friends with benefits relationship, so things are very casual, however I'd like to take it to the next level and I'm pretty sure he feels the same way. So it does feel like things are moving in that direction- but we haven't had that talk yet and we're still just having fun. (I'm 29F, he 42M)Anyways. Lately he seems a little down and homesick (he's from a different country). Recently I was at an international market shopping around and I found a candle, and the name of the scent was the name of his home country. So I picked it up and planned to give it to him, hoping it would brighten his day and remind him of home. He always has a candle lit on his table when I go over, and I figured it's something he would actually use.But then I started wondering if this is weird? Guys, how would you feel about receiving a small gift like this from a girl you're in a casual relationship with? Is it too much? Or would it make you feel special, would you like it?
