Hey guys,It is my first birthday with my boyfriend of five months and it didn't seem like he puts much thought into it. He told me he didn't get me anything but offered me either a giftcard to LuLu Lemon (which I don't shop at) or $80 to buy clothes. I told him that was thoughtless and he said I often mention I need new clothes, but that is not something I value.I am really offended because I put a lot of thought into his birthday even thought (took him kayaking, paid for lunch, got a card and gift) even though we were only together for a week at that point, not to mention I spent more than he is offering me despite having a higher income than me. It is not even about the dollar amount for, but I am really hurt that he didn't have anything ready for me and just offered a giftcard or cash. I would have appreciated a card and flowers more than.How do I express that I am disappointed that he didn't put much thought into my birthday without seeming ungrateful? I appreciate that he has taken consideration of my mentioning I need new clothes, but I would have rather he took the time to go buy me a piece of clothing even if there was a chance I wouldn't like it.
