I really enjoy seeing all the lists that people post on here with ideas about what gifts to get people. Especially lists that might spark my own imagination with a gift for someone that I might not have thought about getting for them. So for those of you that share those lists, thank you! :)But here's my rub with Christmas: my husband's family still does gift giving. We end up spending about $1000 on his family (and my small one) every year (and yes, we do budget an allotted amount for each person, $50). A couple years ago, we decided to go with 'Giftster' to put all our wishes on, simply because we found that we were all getting and giving things that people already had or didn't want, and we were all just accumulating more stuff. First year it was great and really helped out. Second year, it was great for everyone that used it right (I ended up getting 2 of the same thing on the list because someone didn't mark off that they got it). Third year, half the family went rogue for me and didn't get anything off the list, and did the same for a couple other family members. I don't know what to expect this year. And the whole thing just makes me really anxious. When people go off the list (or go 'rogue' as I say) and get me something, it's usually something that I would not have purchased for myself, or something they THINK I would like. So I end up getting these things from people that are supposed to be family that clearly show that they don't know me at all. It's frustrating for me, cause now I am ending up with more 'stuff' that I can't use or don't want or already have. And it's kinda disheartening to realize that these people don't know enough about me or care enough to get me something I would want or use, especially when they have a list right in front of them of things that I DO want or need!Ugh. Sorry for the rant. I just needed to get that out, and since this is all about gifts and gifting, I thought I would do it here. Thanks for reading! And please, any suggestions you all might have, please share! via /r/Gifts https://www.reddit.com/r/Gifts/comments/7kmm05/christmas_is_always_tough_for_me/?utm_source=ifttt
