This man is the most difficult person to buy things for! If you ask him what he wants, he shrugs his shoulders and says “I don’t know.” When we buy him things that we think he might like, he ends up returning them. Here’s the deal with this jerk (I love him very much but damn): He’s 54. He works in New York City and commutes an hour and a half every day. He retires this year and he cannot fucking wait. He loves football and baseball. That would make you think of tickets to a game, right? Wrong. He does not like to go to them, just watch them. He also will not wear most memorabilia, outside of maybe a long sleeve shirt with a team’s emblem on it. He has a collectible car that he babies but we have already exhausted all gift options for it (reupholstered, new car cover, detailing etc.). Other than that, the only other major thing about him is that he’s really into his heritage (Italian immigrant). He’s flying to Italy after Christmas to see his parents, and will be there for two weeks. He’s pretty anti-technology, too (has returned tech we’ve gotten him in the past). Normally I wouldn’t stress this much but I moved out this year and I really miss him and I want to give him something that he’ll really like this year.
