My neighbour is an elderly man who has been lovely over the years. We get extra produce that he grows from the garden and there’s always a little present for the kids at Christmas. He keeps an eye on the house when we’re away and has let us borrow a variety of garden tools. He’s been a fountain of knowledge when it comes to problems with the house (as he has lived nextdoor since he was a boy and knows a lot about the works undertaken in ours) and is very knowledgeable about the local area.Over the years, we’ve tried to return the favour but he is a tough nut to crack. He is fiercely independent and so it’s hard to help him with some things and will say he has the time to do them and enjoys grafting. We’ve offered to paint his fence; mow his lawn; clean his gutters.. but he says he enjoys doing it. And I believe this.I’d like to get him a gift that is just for him, and not a favour or DIY or “hey Ted, do you want my old treadmill before I dispose of it”. He doesn’t drink and has a number of food allergies. He lives a very frugal lifestyle and spends most of his time tending to his beautiful garden and keeping up with politics (local and national).I have thought of buying him some weird and wonderful hybrids of his favourite plants but I KNOW he’ll feel compelled to give me some of the crop and I feel weird about that.I’d appreciate any help. I’m looking to get him a Christmas gift (I know it’s early, but want to avoid panic-buying socks). via /r/Gifts https://www.reddit.com/r/Gifts/comments/cdoozu/my_lovely_neighbour/?utm_source=ifttt
