I know this is kind of out of place, but i’m tired of scrolling through comments and seeing recommendations of a “betta fish” or “hamster” as a gift idea.Pets are not gifts. They are daily commitments. When pets are given as gifts, they often do not receive the proper care they need. Research must be done before someone decides to bring a living, breathing creature into their home. The last time i saw someone get a pet as a gift, it was a guinea pig. Someone gave this teenage boy a living creature that depended on him and after it died he joked that it “totally died of natural causes and not neglect lol” and subsequently threw its body in a river, posting a video of the whole thing online. I’m not saying thats going to happen, but had his girlfriend not given him the animal, it wouldnt have happened.A fish isnt “just a fish” and a small rodent isnt “just a mouse.” They are living creatures. They do not deserve to live in tiny enclosures without proper stimulation.Ill get off my soap box now. via /r/Gifts https://www.reddit.com/r/Gifts/comments/d811b4/stop_giving_pets_as_gifts/?utm_source=ifttt
