We haven't ever really connected with each other. My brother really clashed with him pretty aggressively at first, but has now accepted him. I haven't so much, and it's mostly because he smokes. He has tried to quit, promises my mom he will daily or weekly or whatever. I am trying to give him something that means something. He always wants golf balls or golf gear, but I really want to show him I'm willing to accept him, and at the same time show him there's nothing I'd rather do than support him quitting cigarettes.
