Hi everyone! I did almost all my gifts by hand this year so I figured I should share them in case anyone wants ideas for crafty gifts. A lot of these can be adjusted to fit a person’s interests!1) Dad - my dad loves playing guitar, and he’s a huge Simpsons fan. If you’re familiar with the “Homer in the hedge” meme, I recreated that by painting a canvas with a picture of Homer, then hot glued fake plastic leaves that I bought from Michael’s around him. I also bought my dad a ukulele as he doesn’t have one yet. Canvasses of memes are super fun!Homer canvas2) Mom - my mom’s favorite show is Psych, so I painted her a canvas of a pineapple (a running joke in the show) with the Psych logo over it. My mom also likes caring for succulents, so I painted a flower pot with a lemon theme and filled it with a succulent arrangement I put together. For Mother’s Day I painted her two flower pots, one with a watermelon theme and one with an orange theme, so I decided to continue with the fruit idea.Psych canvasLemon Pot (sorry, this picture came out super blurry)3) Brother / Brother’s long term girlfriend - my brother and his girlfriend love baking together, so I painted a mason jar with some nice flowers. Then, I cut up strips of colored paper and wrote different desserts on them (i.e. walnut blondies, chocolate lava cake, cherry pie). I then folded the paper strips into origami stars and filled the mason jar with them. The idea is that when they want to bake something, they can draw a star at random and bake whatever is written on it.Baking Jar4) Boyfriend - my boyfriend’s favorite movie is Kill Bill, so I bought some plain white Vans shoes and painted them yellow with red splashes to look like blood. On one shoe, I then painted a silhouette of the main character from the movie holding her iconic sword. On the other shoe, I painted a vertical black stripe, like the one seen on the movie poster. On the heels of the shoes, I painted the Japanese characters for “Kill Bill,” also inspired by posters from the movie. My boyfriend is also a huge fan of the anime Naruto, so I painted a mason jar with a picture of Naruto on it, and filled the mason jar with origami stars like I did for my brother, but instead of writing dessert ideas, I wrote things that I like / appreciate about him and our relationship, and my favorite memories of us. Finally, he’s also a huge fan of Pokémon, so I bought a standard deck of cards. I then asked him what his four favorite Pokémon types are, and assigned these to each be one suit of the deck. Then I made a chart and assigned one Pokémon of each of those types, to each card in that suit. (For example, one of his favorite types is Steel, so for the Spades suit, each card is assigned a Steel type Pokémon). I then painted each card with a picture of each Pokémon.Naruto JarKill Bill ShoesLike I said, these ideas can easily be adapted to fit different interests. And the best part is, most of these ideas are super cheap! Paints and canvasses shouldn’t run you more than $10, I got the mason jars for $3 each, and the flower pot cost about a dollar, as did the deck of cards. The most expensive gifts were the Vans ($50) and the ukulele ($120). I hope you enjoy these ideas; I know I loved working on them! via /r/Gifts https://www.reddit.com/r/Gifts/comments/efqq8q/christmas_gifts_for_my_family/?utm_source=ifttt
