Hi everyone! So I basically started writing to this wonderful lady about 4 months ago. While reading about the Korean War, I discovered her husband’s fascinating story but then discovered he passed away in 2007. I wrote to her because, as a second generation Japanese-American, both of their families were placed in internment camps during World War II and this has been a particular area of study for me.I sent her a letter and we struck up an amazing conversation that hasn’t stopped since! She has sent me a Christmas letter, family photos, and other materials relating to her and her husband’s lives. In about a week it is her 93rd birthday and I though I would get her something small because she has always been kind enough to send me stuff and I wanted to return the favor. I can’t imagine what in the world would be appropriate, but if anyone has any ideas for a nice small gift I could mail her, I would be deeply, deeply appreciative.
