So my dad is retiring (actually today was his last day of work) and normally I just treat my parents out to eat somewhere nice but obviously we can't now (even though restaurants are open, my parents don't want to risk anything). My dad's two main hobbies are working in the yard/garden (we grow vegetables), and listening to classical music in the home theater. I don't want to get him any kind of tools or albums because he has A TON and probably everything he'll ever need. I mean A LOT of tools. And entire bookshelves of albums/CDs. And he already has a decent amount of high end audio stuff. I've always wanted to get him tickets to some kind of concert but that's also not currently feasible. And don't get me started on tea. There are cabinets filled with different kinds of teas (mostly Chinese). He's basically a Chinese tea expert, only drinks high quality/loose leaf. He's gotten multiple tea-related gifts from my brother and I so I'm not sure if there's anything to get that he doesn't have or would actually use. Is there some kind of super special awesome tea that he might like? I was thinking something to keep him active/healthy would be good, but don't know what. I wouldn't say his health is poor but definitely not great. One of my best friends lost her best friend who was basically her soulmate and sister (Z) about 10 months ago. Somedays I know she's still struggling over the fact (especially bc we were all due to graduate together last month) but other days she sounds and looks so happy. Her birthday is coming up soon and I thought I'd give her something related to Z (she loves talking about her and remembering her) but now I'm second-guessing myself because what if it just makes her sad/gives her a constant reminder that she's no longer with us and reminds her of her grief over everything? My questions are:- Is it insensitive to gift someone something that references our late friend? I knew Z, and her death was heartbreaking and really affected me but it was nothing compared to how my friend felt so I'm struggling to put myself in her shoes (and also because I wasn't as close with Z maybe I'd be overstepping?) My idea was to try and recreate a line art of her favourite people similar to this but on a tote or scarf or mug idk and it would include Z obv.- If it is insensitive, what would be a good gift that would help? Knowing that she's had a particularly difficult year? What gifts have you received when grieving that helped you?
