I'm fuming right now to say the least. On black Friday we started looking for deals for a gaming PC for my 14 year old son. He's autistic, and doesn't have friends in school, but over the last year we have seen him start to work withing some social norms built within his gaming community. TBH its still a little odd hearing him ask for forgiveness for a perceived slight to a fellow online gamer. He plays a game that requires him to take tests and be part of a very structured society. If it sounds weird to you, as a 80s child it's mind boggling to me. To our surprise, this has been translating into a definite improvement in his social skills. He's been all A's and a B this year, and has has only minor incidents within school. By no stretch are my wife and I financially struggling, but my job has transferred me and things are a little tighter than usual, so we are counting pennies for the remainder of the year and even took out a small 401K loan to give our boys a Christmas they could enjoy. He really didn't ask for much other than a couple of games, but we really wanted to reward him. Enter Best Buy... the weekend after Thanksgiving the wife and I eye the gaming PCs, and find one that is normally priced for $650 for $400. Says the item is in stock and will arrive December 10th. Fantastic! Except 3 days ago we get an e-mail saying it will not ship until approximately January 8th. I think, "no problem, I've had similar issues with Amazon, and they always solve it." I even find it in stock at a store 2 hours away. Crap, I'll have to drive, but my boy is worth it. So my wife calls customer service (they wouldn't talk to me about the order because it had her name on the credit card... still okay). And this is where Best Buy loses a customer for life. Mind you, I've probably spent a small fortune there over the years, so I'm a little satisfied with the impact my loss with have. Customer service can't.... let me switch it to the in-store pickup, ship it from the store, sell me an equivalent gaming computer for same amount or..... get this.... honor the online price they sold it to me at in store. My son didn't ask for the computer, and will most likely take it in stride, but I feel I failed him. To me this is some epic BS... the sales are gone, and I'm stuck waiting until after Christmas.​Best Buy, corporate (very specifically corporate) you all should be ashamed at the least, and make it right at the "how to treat people" forget customers level. I don't have a platform, so I'm hoping someone who does shares this. For those of you with a heart, my boys (Nixon 14 and Kane 10 both Autistic) would love to read a few Christmas wishes. I think it would be neat to see if a few people send some Merry Christmas notes. (We are almost 40).He is an amazing man and he rarely takes time for himself, so I wanted to give him something thoughtful that he could enjoy either alone or with a friend.I thought of getting him tickets to see a jazz band in the city, but those don't start again till the spring/summer.I also thought about getting him samples of higher end shaving products (because he likes to take really good care of his beard), but I'm not sure what he likes, or if it will be a tacky idea.​I already got him tickets (for us, or him and someone else) to go to Archery lessons, which he has said he's like.​The problem I'm running into is that we've done a lot in 2 years, and we've given a lot. I've given him a beer basket, a boudoir pictures of me, clothes, a cell phone, cologne, a love book, books to read, concert tickets, CDs, and we went away for a long weekend recently. My step-dad is so hard to buy for, god love him. He just won’t use even some of my most thoughtful gifts and is a very simple fella who sticks to the routine. I really don’t want to get him another sudoku book, crass gag gift, or coffee mug he won’t use. The best present he ever received was an electric griddle he cooks up breakfast on for nearly every meal.
